Smoke Song

Wed 16 July 2014 | -- (permalink)

I think I'll go
and smoke outside
grab the pack from
the shelf beside
the door, or should
I just take one
I spare myself
the decision

maybe one more
now that this first
cigarette is done
maybe some more
o' that nicotine buzz
maybes shall be no more

I take the pack
unlock the door
park my ass
on the dirty floor
of our courtyard
in dark of night
been duly warned
of bugs that bite

maybe one more
now that this fifth
cigarette is done
maybe some more
o' that nicotine buzz
maybes shall be no more

the warning goes
as warnings do
what bugs me now's
not bugs but you
smoke in, smoke out
occasional flick
the night is gone
my head toxic

maybe one more
now that this twelfth
cigarette is done
maybe some more
o' that nicotine buzz
maybes shall be no more

insides all tight
and churning are
I should go in and sleep
can't fight the tide
for long enough
the water is too deep

there is no more
now that this last
cigarette is done
there is no more
o' that nicotine buzz
there's nothing left no more
